"MoVe.in" is a mobile phone application providing simple and rapid information about accessible routes and locations within Venice. The app is available for both Android and iPhones. It is designed for a diverse user base, including residents, tourists, and people with motor, sensory, or cognitive disabilities, as well as for the elderly and parents with strollers / pushchairs.
The initial phase of the project covers the historic center of Venice, with plans for expansion to other Italian cities. The app provides up-to-date information on accessible routes, transportation, points of interest, parks, restrooms/ toilets, and other amenities: this information is currently scattered across various, hard-to-find websites. The app provides users with a fast, effective and reliable solution to the often challenging and time-consuming task of finding one’s way around the city.
It alerts users to physical obstacles or barriers along any given route and shows where there are permanent ramps on to cross bridges. If a destination is not readily accessible by a given route, the app will suggest proposes an alternative.

The street map shows routes in two distinct colors: green and blue.
• Red is the color for bridges without accessibility ramps
• Green routes are readily accessible.
• Blue routes may offer only restricted access, due to, for example, the absence of ramps on connecting bridges, the lack of a public waterbus stop, or the presence of other micro-barriers.

This is an essential feature ensuring a safe and mobility experience in Venice.


How it Works
• Geolocate using your current GPS location or select a start and end point on the map
• The recommended barrier-free route will be highlighted, including any permanent ramps on bridges
• Micro-barriers (slopes, steps, and uneven paving) will also be highlighted
• Every route will give turn-by-turn directions, distance, and travel time
• If a route is not accessible, the navigator will indicate the nearest public transport stop
• Alternatively users may be advised to use private transport (water taxes)

The Navigator is linked to information on public transport, including stops and lines for ACTV and ALILAGUNA waterbus services. It suggests ways to reach otherwise inaccessible islands that may lack bridge ramps or involve a route which is otherwise considered too long and strenuous.

Accessibility Rating
The app gathers accessibility information using Open Data from public and private institutional websites, integrating and verifying this data through on-site surveys and checks. The analysis is based on specific objective criteria and technical/dimensional requirements, as well as on parameters from current national and European regulations.
All collected data is summarized in a helpful user-visible overview sheet.
The result for each location or building is shown by an accessibility rating symbol on the map, classified as follows
• Green Accessible
• Blue Partially accessible
• Red Not accessible
• Yellow data not yet available
